Cerakote Testing

Well here we go!

Since I stated making quick releases, the most popular question I get asked is “Does it come in black?” and I’m finally here to tell you, YES! I have tried so many different options from black wash, anodizing, and a few other coating options and they just didn’t meet my standards. I want tough, flat, not too time consuming and able to produce batches and not just one at a time. I have been able to anodize titanium to a black finish but they have to be made one at a time and it takes at least 5-10 minutes per side of a quick release. Not good for production runs.

Cerakote has been on my list for a while but with all the failed attempts I was tired of wasting so much time. After a weekend with my new brother-in-law I was shown just how easy it can be with a few simple tools and processes. He cerakotes gun parts and says it’s the best out there. Even on some of the moving parts. Sure it wears over time but it takes a long time! So I jumped in. Purchased some of the materials, I already have a small junk oven, and have my old air brush equipment.

If you missed it over on instagram the first attempts were amazing. There are so many colors and finish options to choose from but I started with Armor Black do to the color and matte finish is produces. I honestly couldn’t be happier about the results. I’ve ran them through the usual pocket testing, drop test and drag them around the concrete floor and wow is this stuff tough. My option for black has been the Delrin Blackouts. They are great in that they are light weight and work just as well but at the end of the day, they are still plastic.

These Cerakote version are the real deal! Cerkote on the popular V2 Titanium is just amazing! My other issue for now is the rings. I’ve attempted to Cerokote them but it just doesn’t work on parts that bend. The two over lapping pieces end up getting stuck together and heating the rings causes them to lose some of their strength.

I am currently cooking a short run as I type this so as soon as they are finished I will put them up on the site and make an announcement over on Instagram.

Thanks to all of you for the support and extra push to get these to life. It hasn’t been the easiest path but it sure has been fun!
