Getting closer

What a great day! Sunny, hot and we made another step in the right direction.

Today we got the pad leveled, formed and added the rebar. If we don’t get too much rain we will be pouring concrete next week!

When I cut this area out and leveled it with screenings, I used a bubble level and a 2x6 to find level. I know what you’re thinking. Get some better tool! I would but why buy a big laser level if I’m only going to use it once and the concrete guys have one. I just needed to get it close. Turns out I was really close and surprised the guys when I told them I used a bubble level. We had to use my little tractor to scrape the top of the screenings. It sets up and is really hard after it gets rained on. Once level was achieved the guys moved on to the forms. They are using a 2x6 to get at least 5 and half inches concrete. The guys then drilled holes in the existing pad to hold the rebar in place and keep the new pad from going anywhere. Like tying the 2 pads together. The new machine weighs about 10k lbs. It will also vibrate so having a well reinforced pad is critical.

Once again we are pouring the concrete first then setting the machine due to the machine being tall and not having a lot of room to work with next to the old shop. Then we will build the shop over top of it. These are not ideal methods but having so many issues building the NEW shop we put it on hold for now. This extension will get the machine on location and I can get it running.

I’m really excited to make progress and hoping the weather cooperates so we can get this poured next week. If we continue to have such warm weather this pad will be ready in 2-3 weeks. It needs to be cured and solid before we put a forklift and a heavy machine on it!

That’s all for this week, stay tuned for more updates.
